Do it or not?
The advent of social media has undoubtedly been a momentous event. It can change our lives completely, both for better and for worse. These platforms have INCREDIBLE advantages and opportunities but also many risks and flaws. For me, social media is a positive thing since it provides me with a real job and a great goal. But in general terms, is it worth it from a private perspective? Should i uninstall Social Media?
Let’s think about it for a moment…

Pros:
- New Friendships: Real friends are mostly made in real life. However, social media also allows you to meet new people, form bonds, and possibly start a relationship. The biggest benefit is that it helps break the ice more easily. Even shy people can approach larger groups online.
- Learning: Social media can be educational as well. Think of all the useful information available on YouTube. If you follow the right people, you can learn a lot more easily and enjoyably. I advise everyone, especially the younger ones, to seek out good examples to learn from.
- Getting noticed: If you have a talent or a dream, social media gives you a great chance to get noticed. These platforms allow you to reach an almost infinite number of people. This recognition could even change your life.
- Seeing the lives of others**: I mention this as a pro, but it also has its downsides. Seeing the lives of others can have different effects depending on the viewer. You might simply be interested in what your friends are doing. You can talk to them and then enjoy your own life. But some people find it difficult to separate their lives from what they see online…
Cons:
- Online Fraud: Fraud on social media is becoming increasingly common and effective. Almost every day, I receive at least one email trying to scam my Instagram profile. Social media users cannot afford to ignore these threats.
- Alienation: All social media platforms exploit our dopamine systems. This makes us constantly attracted to them, scrolling endlessly. It’s unfortunate when you consider all the time wasted just looking at a screen. This happens without really living or entertaining ourselves meaningfully.
- Bad influences: It’s easy to follow people on social media who promote unhealthy and dangerous lifestyles. Although we may feel invincible, we are all easily influenced. This puts us at risk of falling into harmful traps. Carefully choose who you follow on social media. It might seem exaggerated, but their influence on your thinking is real.
- Seeing the lives of others**: Here we return to the point I mentioned earlier. Unfortunately, constantly seeing what others are doing, especially through stories, can make us feel empty. People often share lifestyles that seem impossible for us. We see continuous stories of parties, fun, and smiles. But remember, the reality is often very different. Everyone on social media tries to show the best parts of their lives. Don’t assume your followers live better or happier lives than you do.
Medical Opinions

Doctors per se consider Social Media as something neutral, neither good nor bad, it all depends on the type of person who uses it especially HOW he or she uses it.
Despite this, however, several studies have been conducted that show that especially younger people very often feel sad because of of Social and very often proves to have a very negative effect on their mental health.
In addition to this several cases have been studied on the actual ADDICTION from Social, which can lead to a situation called “Fear of Missing”. Every one of us is afflicted by it, some more and some less, it is that constant feeling that we are missing out on something if we don’t check our Social, that mad desire to look at all the stories in the hope that the next one will really show us what we were looking for or something more interesting.
It is that feeling that probably manages to keep almost every user on the screen for an extended period of time. Some studies even mention cases of depression milder due to the disproportionate use of Social.
Conclusion
But so in the end, should I uninstall them or not? Well, I don’t know!
We cannot say for sure whether uninstalling your Social Media will really be able to make you feel better or make you a better person. What I can tell you, however, is that trying to impose a certain time limit on yourself and committing to it is not an evil action but in fact, it could really be the turning point in your life that will allow you to focus more on more important things.
However, I would recommend a break for anyone who feels crushed by the weight of Social, who cannot break away or who feels that they are feeling bad because of them. A good break and working on yourself will definitely be able to make you feel better.
