Introduction
Anyone who creates content can understand the frustration this platform makes us feel when it decides to create a new Instagram algorithm from time to time. But when we then go on to create posts or reels that look amazing and wonderful, punctually… They don’t make any views. There can be many reasons for this. Of course, one reason could be that our video isn’t as good as we think.,or…
Instagram’s algorithm didn’t like it.
This algorithm is constantly being updated, and keeping up with it can be overwhelming. Fortunately, I’m here to explain the new Instagram Algorithm 2024 and its changes!
What is this algorithm?

But what exactly is this infamous and dreaded “algorithm” that decides not to let our content go viral?
Simply put, Instagram’s algorithm is a set of rules. These rules decide whether, and how, to show your content to other users. If the algorithm doesn’t like your video, rest assured it won’t be shown to many people. Fortunately, there are always ways to be able to predict this algorithm and create things that it likes.
Today we are going to go over all the major changes that have been made during 2024.
Changes 2024
I want to make it clear right away that the changes that are made are usually not huge; they are usually just trying to change some details or small bugs that do not help the platform. Regardless of all this, any kind of change can be addressed without excessive problems with a proper and well-thought-out strategy.
Now let’s get started:
The first fundamental change that has been applied concerns views. Views are now the most important parameter for any content we create. Shares, comments, and likes still matter, but views have taken the top spot. So, we need to focus on increasing views as much as possible. Forget old methods like asking users to spam emojis in comments or share. Now, it’s all about the content.
What Counts as Views?
But what really counts as views? We don’t have a 100% certain explanation, but many leaks suggest that a view is considered a view by the platform from 3 seconds and up and each replay is considered a new view.
Tackling Fake Profiles
There are ongoing efforts to fix the issue of fake profiles. Fake accounts hurt our results by lowering engagement levels and overall views. When videos are shown to these non-genuine accounts, it damages our performance. In addition to this, there is an effort to show more and more of our videos to non-followers, this definitely helps profiles increase their audience
(a problem had by quite a few in the last period).
Timing and Video Length for Reels
A key point for reels in 2024 is timing. Reels tend to gain more views 48 to 72 hours after posting. Don’t lose hope if your video seems like a flop on the first day. There’s no perfect length for videos right now. Both 3-minute and 3-second videos can go viral. The important thing is to create high-quality, engaging content.
Best Time to Post
There’s no strict rule about the best time to post. My advice is to check when your audience is most active. Post during those hours, but don’t stress too much about it!

Is it really that important?
But so is thinking about this algorithm all the time really that important?
In my opinion, no.
It’s important to understand the major changes, especially if they affect our reach. But for smaller updates, I believe the usual formula works just fine:
Post a lot, a lot of quality, and a lot of value to the viewer.
These characteristics are impossible to scratch by any algorithm I assure you!
